Burghausen
The Bavarian town where silicon is purified and ingots are pulled.
In a single Bavarian town, silicon is purified into polysilicon, pulled into ingots and sliced into wafers. Burghausen hosts Wacker's polysilicon plants and, born from the same company, Siltronic's wafer production. Gas comes in one side, polished discs leave the other. It is one of the few places outside Asia where these two steps touch. The competitors are in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United States.
